Although I have years of experience in commercial, product and architectural photography, one of my most practiced forms of the art is Carpenter family photography! We’ve shot together five times now, and each shoot is always something different. A few weeks ago we shot some family portraits in Lakeway, just outside of Austin. The resort is a fantastic spot for this kind of shoot, and we had a lot of fun trying to get as many shots in as possible before the sun went down. Check em out!

Engagement Photography on South Padre Island

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of making a trip out to South Padre Island here in South Texas to shoot some engagement photography for my friends Maritza and Elio. It was also my first island shoot with some new lighting equipment I’m trying out, and the results were even better than I was expecting!
Big thanks to my friends Kamron, Cole and Jaime for always being there to help me out when I need more help than just a lightstand can provide!

Business Portraits for UT Austin MBA Students

Last week I shot a group of really cool headshots here in the studio for Nikki, a McCombes MBA student here in Austin. The images will appear in a university publication as well as Nikki’s own self-promotion on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook etc. After applying the images to her LinkedIn, Nikki tells me she already has calls coming in from businesses interested in recruiting her. In addition to the traditional gray backdrop corporate-style headshots, we shot photography in the studio lobby and hallway – both of which have a very contemporary and “commercial” feel.

Luke and Gina’s Engagement Photography

One of my most photogenic clients who is fantastic in front of the lens is a singer/song writer and friend of mine. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of shooting some engagement photography for Gina and her fiance Luke. We had a little overcastedness and some sprinklage to contend with, but on the bright side, there’s no better softbox than a cloudy sky. Luke, I’ll definitely smuggle some sunchips into the wedding haha

Commercial Portraits for Holiday Wine and Liquor

Holiday Wine and Liquor, a valley-wide company with locations in McAllen, Harlingen, Edinburg, Mission and Weslaco, is rapidly approaching their 30th year in operations and commissioned me for a photo shoot showcasing their various seasonal offerings. Shown above are five different themes focusing on Christmas, New Year’s, Spring, Valentines Day, and hunting. Creating aesthetic shots that appropriately relay their respective themes can be a real challenge on a limited time frame. However, with the help of a fantastic setting, model, scene designer and makeup artist, this shoot came together quite nicely!

Last weekend, I had a blast with the Tichenor family from Dallas, TX. We shot a few portraits at the historic Tichenor estate in South Texas and then headed out to beautiful South Padre Island for a few sunset shots. One of my biggest clients, RGVision Magazine, gives me the opportunity to shoot some of the most influential and successful people in the Rio Grande Valley. This month, the featured profiles include Dr. Juliet Garcia – President of the University of Texas at Brownsville, Dr. Charmaine Browne – dermatologist in McAllen, Texas, and Lew Vasburgh – CEO of Valley Designs in Harlingen. All three were a pleasure to meet and photograph.

Being a recent graduate of the UTB School of Business, it was great to meet Dr. Garcia and the UTB board of directors, and I hope to work with UTB in the future.

My name is Justin Wallace, and I’ve been a photographer for as long as I can remember. I began shooting film as a child in Missouri and Colorado, and moved into digital in my latter years of high school. When I landed my first real job, I was handed a camera and asked to shoot professional photography for multi-national corporations for use on high-budget websites. Of course I made my fair share of mistakes along the way, but eventually made enough to know how to do it right. As I developed as a photographer, I became more and more interested in the art and accumulated a small library of my own on the subject.

Eventually, I decided it was time for me to move onward and upward, and I returned to college full time and finished my BBA in management in May of 2009. During this time, I continued building my competencies as a commercial and portrait photographer and eventually launched JustinWallacePhotography.com with the help of the work provided by my very first clients.

I’ve come a long way since relocating to Austin in early 2010. With the launch of portraitsofaustin.com, I hope to serve more and more of the community with the photography I love shooting!
